Islamic Relief recently published an analysis of United Nations (UN) data showing that July 2025 has become the deadliest month in Gaza in over a year and a half. Between 1 and 20 July, at least 2,382 Palestinians were killed—an average of 119 deaths per day, or one person every 12 minutes—the highest daily fatality rate since January 2024. Additionally, more than 8,000 people have been wounded, making this the most injurious month since December 2023.
The data highlights a marked rise in casualties following the implementation of Israel’s new militarised food distribution policy in late June. Aid agencies and medical professionals report increasing incidents of civilians being shot while attempting to access food, with numerous injuries transported by donkey carts amid restrictions on ambulance access.
According to Islamic Relief, the Israeli blockade of Gaza has severely restricted humanitarian aid, resulting in civilian fatalities attributed not only to conflict but also to malnutrition.
The UN and humanitarian agencies estimate that nearly 9% of Gaza’s pre-war population has now been killed or injured, including over 59,000 fatalities. Children account for at least 30% of deaths, with approximately 28 killed each day. Amputations and life-altering injuries have also surged significantly.
